অতীতের নানা বিরাজনীতিকরণ প্রক্রিয়ার শিকার হওয়া সত্ত্বেও, নিজের দীর্ঘ রাজনৈতিক জীবনে তিনি অসংখ্য সাফল্য অর্জন করেছেন এবং দেশের জন্য বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নীতি নির্ধারণ করেছেন। জাতি গঠনে তাঁর অবদান চিরস্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকবে; তবে তাঁর মৃত্যু বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশকে স্থিতিশীল করার প্রচেষ্টায় একটি বড় ধাক্কা।তাঁর অসংখ্য সমর্থক ও শুভাকাঙ্ক্ষীদের প্রতি রইল আন্তরিক সমবেদনা।
